公務員英語講座

公務員試験を目指す方の中には、一般教養試験の英語が苦手という方がけっこういます。公務員試験の英語は時事英文が中心ですから、大学入試の英語より難しく見えるかもしれませんが、問題のほとんどが内容一致問題ですから、英文アレルギーをなくし、ある程度の単語力をつければ、高得点が可能です。この「公務員英語講座」では、公務員試験の問題を題材に、英文の読み方と単語力のつけ方を勉強しましょう。時事英文入門としてもお使いいただけると思います。

公務員試験英語の学習法

ここでは「地方上級」の問題レベルについて考えます。 １ 出題英文のレベルは？  文法構文は、大学受験英語レベルで十分。単語力は、大学受験レベルではやや不足する。 ２ 読むスピードは？  ふつうに意味を考えながら読めばよく、特別速く読む必要はない。 ３ 今後の学習で一番大切なことは？  単語力をつけること。 記述問題はないし、選択肢も素直なものが多いので、単語力が多い人が絶対有利。 ４ 単語を覚えるにはどうすればよいか？  時事英語が載った単語集（Ｚ会　速読速聴・英単語など）を１冊仕上げるのが一番よい。これに平行して、英字新聞・ニュースのサイトから記事をコピーし、辞書を引きながら読むとよい。 ５ 文の構造がさっぱりつかめない人はどうすればよいか？  大学受験時のテキストをもう一度復習する。 または、このサイトのこのコーナーで勉強する。

英文読解トレーニング　（１）　andが結ぶものを考えよう

英語が苦手な人が最初によくやるのは、単語集の丸暗記ですが、挫折する人が後をたちません。挫折する理由は、単語と意味だけ覚えようとしても面白くないからです。単語を覚えるには、英文を読まなければなりません。しかし、英文の読み方がわからないと、やはり途中で挫折してしまいます。 そこで、ある程度の長さの英文を自分で分析して読めるようになるトレーニングを始めたいと思います。英文を読んでいて途中でわからなくなるのは、文が長くてなかなか終わらないからです。「英文がどうして長くなるのか？」を知れば、どんなに長い文であっても、自分で理解できるようになります。 以下の問題をやってみてください。問題文を読み、設問に答えるだけです。その際、和訳を読みながらでかまいません。   問題１　 The securing of world peace and stability, the furtherance of global economic prosperity, the promotion of universal values , and the solution of global issues are all among the objectives which are being pursued by the entire international community.   設問） 1) 英文中の下線部付のandが結ぶものを見つけなさい。 2) 次の２つの句を、文中の適するところにそれぞれ入れなさい。 　such as freedom, human rights and democracy  /  such as environmental problems 3) 文全体の動詞はどれか？１語で答えなさい。 4) 関係代名詞を見つけて下線を引きなさい。 和訳） 世界の平和と安定の保障、地球規模の経済繁栄の推進、自由・人権・民主主義などの普遍的価値の促進、そして環境問題など地球的規模の諸問題の解決、これらは全て国際社会全体が追求している目標である。 解説は下に↓

問題１　 The securing of world peace and stability, the furtherance of global economic prosperity, the promotion of universal values , and the solution of global issues are all among the objectives which are being pursued by the entire international community. 設問） 1) 英文中の下線部付のandが結ぶものを見つけなさい。 このandが結んでいるのは、(1)The securing of world peace and stability  (2)the furtherance of global economic prosperity  (3)the promotion of universal values   (4)the solution of global issues  の４つです。 andが２つ以上のものを結ぶ場合を考えてみましょう。次のようになります。 A + B  →　A and B     A + B + C  → A, B and C A + B + C + D → A, B, C and D    A + B + C + D + E → A, B, C, D and E andが３つのものを結ぶ場合、A and B and C　ではなく、A, B and C  となることに気をつけましょう。 2) 次の２つの句を、文中の適するところにそれぞれ入れなさい。 　such as freedom, human rights and democracy  /  such as environmental problems 正解は下の通りです。 The securing of world peace and stability, the furtherance of global economic prosperity, the promotion of universal values such as freedom, human rights and democracy, and the solution of global issues such as environmental problems are all among the objectives which are being pursued by the entire international community.
