　 大人のための中学教科書

大人が英語を一からやり直そうとする場合、一番堅実な方法の一つは、中学の教科書を全部勉強することです。本屋の教材売り場に行って、教科書ガイドと付属のＣＤを買い、家で勉強します。中学の教科書は、易しいところから、少しずつ難しくなるように書いてありますから、英語初心者は中学１年から段階的に勉強すれば、たいへん効果的です。しかし、内容が幼稚なのはいかんともしがたいところがあります。そこで、大人が読んでも面白い内容を、中１〜中３の文法項目を守りつつ書いてみました。文法事項は中学レベルですが、単語は高校で習う単語をどんどん入れています。

なお、このコーナーの読み物は、学校の教科書には絶対載らないような、人間や社会の嫌な面、未来に何の展望もない姿などを描いています。こういう話題が嫌いな方はお読みにならないでください。

Billy is a poor boy.  He is scared of his parents.  His father is always drunk at home, and hits him hard on his head several times a day.  He cries and runs from his father. He asks his mother for help, but she doesn’t help him.  On the contrary, she always stands up for her husband.  She says, “Frankly, I don’t love you, Billy.  Be someone’s child, ha,ha,ha!”  She points to the door, and says, “This is not the place for you, Billy.  It is for us, your dad and me.  We are having a good time now.”   Billy says nothing and gets out of the room.  He spends most of his time in the nearby park.  He sees no children there in the daytime.  They are at elementary school or kindergarden.  Billy is five, and doesn’t go to kindergarden.  His parents spends almost no money on his education.  They feed him, and that is all.  He is really lonely.  These days he sometimes thinks of suicide.  In secret, he has a knife in the bottom drawer of his desk, and a rope in his closet.   He isn’t afraid of death.  He is afraid of his parents.
